Taki and I will travel and we will travel a lot! Therefore, the choice of tent and comfort for us and the dog is important.

The year 2020 was not ideal from the point of view of travel. Anyway, we have a selected and tested tent and we are looking forward to traveling with a dog in 2021!

We have been choosing a tent online for a long time and we were most interested in the Decathlon offer. Of course, the tent is ideal to see first, so we loaded Taki into the car and drove to Ostrava, where they have tents in front of the store and can be seen “in action”. We could enter each tent, see the construction and internal arrangement.

After examining all the tents, the following two favorites were clear to us:

  • ROD TENT ARPENAZ 4.1 FOR 4 PERSONS WITH 1 BEDROOM QUECHUA for 2 499 CZK
  • ROD TENT ARPENAZ 4.1 F&B FOR 4 PERSONS WITH 1 BEDROOM QUECHUA for CZK 3,999 (we finally bought this one)

These two tents are identical in size and construction, but the more expensive one is additionally equipped with Fresh & Black technology, which ensures pleasant darkness. The usefulness of this technology was known at first as soon as you entered the tent. The tent with Fresh & Black technology was really at least 8 degrees less emotionally! So it pays to pay a little extra, in the summer it will definitely be known and there is nothing worse if the dog does not want to go to your tent, because it is too hot in it!

It was perfect that a dog is allowed to enter Ostrava Decathlon and we didn’t have to leave Taki in the car. There are bowls for dogs at the entrance and the staff is very friendly to dogs! I wish there were more of these Dog friendly shops!

How to teach a dog to stay in a tent?

The chapter itself is getting the dog used to the tent. If the dog has no experience sleeping in a tent, then it is not a completely good idea to go to the camp right away and just risk it. You could easily be expelled from the campsite for disturbing the night’s peace. Not everyone has an understanding for the intense night barking of a dog in a tent.

I recommend first training everything in peace at home, in the cottage, with friends in the garden, etc. Unpack the tent, play with the dog around the tent, play with the dog in the tent, feed him in the tent. Try to sleep with him for a few nights and when you are sure that the dog can handle it in peace, you can go out into the world.
